BIC broadly welcomes the fundamental direction of the Industrial Accelerator Act and flags the gaps in some key operational areas

BIC embraces the ambition on the proposed Regulation on the EU Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) and advances key demands on the integration of sustainable biomass and bio-based industries as part of the solution for a more competitive and resilient Europe.

On 18 June, the Bio-based Industries provided its response to the European Commission's Call for Feedback on the proposed Regulation on the EU Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), aiming to strengthen Europe's competitiveness and industrial resilience in the face of growing global pressures.

BIC broadly welcomes IAA’s ambition but flags a critical gap: the lack of operationalisation measures for bio-based solutions. The proposed Regulation acknowledges the role of the bioeconomy in providing sustainable biomass and bio-based solutions for industrial production. Yet good intentions on paper do not automatically translate into concrete support on the ground.

Therefore, BIC highlights five specific areas for action, detailed in the call for feedback paper:

  • Strategic recognition and industrial ecosystem development

  • Investment and industrial scale-up

  • Market creation and demand-side measures

  • Regulatory efficiency and permitting

  • Competitiveness and policy coherence
