BII – Bio-marine Ingredients Ireland

Bio-marine Ingredients Ireland (BII) is a marine bio-refining company with its factory located in Lough Egish, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. BII is a joint venture between Irish fishing vessel owners and Norwegian partners. The Irish partners control large quotas of pelagic fish while the Norwegian partners bring technical expertise and experience of the marine ingredients business. BII has built a marine bio-refinery that is operational since August 2017.

BII produce the highest quality marine ingredients utilising the vast quantities of boarfish and blue whiting which are located proximate to the Irish coast. The main shareholders in BII are the key holders of these quotas which constitute the bulk of the raw materials supplied to the BII facility.

The biggest challenge facing marine ingredients companies today is access to long-term sustainable supplies of raw material. BII’s access to pelagic species through its Shareholders provides a critical competitive advantage. Through advanced hydrolysing process BII converts raw material of moderate commercial value into proteins, oil and calcium.

The combination of an integrated supply-chain and state-of-the-art production facilities will enable BII become a leader in the supply of marine based proteins, lipids and calcium to the international marketplace.
