Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP) is an independent, open access, state-of-the-art facility that operates from laboratory level to multi-ton scale. It is a service provider for process development, scale-up and custom manufacturing of biobased products and processes. BBEPP enables the conversion of renewable feedstocks into biochemicals, food/feed ingredients, biomaterials, biofuels and other bioproducts by using technologies such as biomass pretreatment, biocatalysis, (gas) fermentation, green chemistry and product recovery and purification.

BBEPP performs the full process in a single plant, from the green biomass resource up to the final bioproduct. A wide and flexible spectrum of modular unit operations combined with the experience of our highly competent engineers and technicians enables us to translate your biobased lab protocol into a viable industrial process. BBEPP is also certified for food grade production.

Since its establishment in 2008, the BBEPP has grown into a mature organisation employing 180+ dynamic and engaged staff members. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant successfully conducted more than 900 (confidential) bilateral projects with over 300 companies and research institutions throughout the world. BBEPP has experience with over 90 consortium-based projects, including 30+ BBI JU and CBE JU projects.
