Alginor's focus is technology and process development with a strong focus on green chemistry and total utilisation. Development of our proprietary AORTA-technology is the focus for Alginor ASA. 

Alginor ASA seeks towards a sustainable and resource efficient future based on seaweed treasures from beyond the Arctic Circle. We focus on total utilisation of seaweeds for production of unique, pure and formulated products in a multifunctional biorefinery, through safe, eco-friendly and efficient operations. 

Alginor was established 24th March 2014 to commercialise knowhow and technology through the construction of an integrated Biorefinery for seaweeds. 

Seaweeds are among the world ' s largest untapped resource. Norway's seaweed forest constitutes 60 % of the coastal biomass with a standing stock estimated to 60 million tons. However, in order to utilise seaweeds effectively it is necessary to use a technology which exploits the entire biomass - a biorefinery. 

Alginor plans to start up the first biorefinery in Norway focusing on total (i.e. 100 %) utilisation and resource efficient processing of seaweeds into life-science ingredients. The biorefinery will be in the form of a Demonstration unit with a tentative production capacity of 10,000 tons of seaweed per year . Further, Alginor plans a new expansion to a full-scale industrial Biorefinery with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of seaweed per year.
