Announcing the five finalists in the BISC-E 2023 competition

The top five student teams through to the final round of the BISC-E 2023 competition are:

  • Vsycle (University of Gent, Belgium) with non-toxic, biodegradable antifreeze proteins (AFPs)
  • BioAroma (AgroParisTech, France) with an innovative valorization of apple pomace for natural flavor and fragrance molecules
  • O-LIVE (University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy) with a biocompatible resource for the cosmetic industry from waste cooking oils
  • VM LOOP (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania) making biodegradable filament for 3D printing herbal extract waste
  • BE Student Research Group (Warsaw University of Technology, Poland) establishing energy cooperatives based on biogas plants, fueled by secondary biomass, to support local communities

The final round will involve all five teams present to an expert jury on 28 September. The winning team and those in second and third place will be received their prizes at the BIC anniversary event on 5 October in Brussels.
