Oulu Mill

Project Aim

The conversion of Oulu Mill from producing paper to producing kraftliner

About

With the increasing move away from plastic to renewable packaging, and the growth of e-commerce, kraftliner is more in demand. This renewable and recyclable packaging paper or paperboard has a fibre content of no less than 80% virgin fibres. Stora Enso has completed the successful conversion of the Oulu Mill from paper production into high-quality kraftliner production. The transformation sees the creation of a world-class production line for virgin-fibre based kraftliner and the pulp mill and drying machine modified for unbleached brown pulp. In addition, the company has invested EUR 40 million to enhance the mill’s environmental performance.
