SWEETWOODS Imavere biorefinery

Project Aim

Converting woody biomass into high-quality lignin and wood sugars, thus providing biomaterials with a low ecological footprint and minimal environmental impact. These biomaterials offer a sustainable solution for a range of industries.

About

Introducing SWEETWOODS project led by Fibenol – a unique wood fractionation demo plant. Powered by sustainable hardwood biomass, Fibenol is leading the way to reduce global reliance on fossil energy sources. SWEETWOODS Imavere biorefinery is the solution to a more sustainable future. This project is revolutionizing the way we think about wood processing. The unique and groundbreaking demo plant is using Sweetwater’s Sunburst pre-processing technology to fractionate biomass into biocomponents faster and more efficiently than any other technology on the market. The demo plant demonstrates on an industrial scale, how novel pre-treatment technology in combination with innovative enzymatic solutions will convert more than 90% of the woody biomass into high-quality lignin and wood sugars. With the help of new technology, it is possible to provide biomaterials with a low-ecological footprint and minimal environmental impact. These biomaterials offer a sustainable solution for a range of industries, from chemistry to cosmetics and construction materials. Fibenol is the perfect solution to help companies meet their sustainability goals and paves the way toward a sustainable future. The development of the demo plant has been partly funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research via SWEETWOODS projects.
