Bioeconomy regions in Europe
Regions play an important role in the further development of the bio-based economy in Europe as they can support the establishment of (regional) innovative value chains. They are also best situated to identify the locally available feedstocks (from agriculture, agrofood, forestry, residual and side streams, etc.) that can trigger the bio-based economy.
Regions can also play a crucial role in attracting investments in local demonstration or flagship projects by benefiting from the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) or the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), creating jobs, economic growth and new opportunities for the primary sector. This report gives an overview of what European regions have to offer in the area of the bioeconomy.
