BIC Position on REDII - Sustainable bioenergy contributes to the EU’s long-term decarbonisation target
The European Commission’s proposal for a recast of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II)1 for the period 2020-2030 promotes renewable electricity, cleaner heating and cooling and decarbonising of the transport sector to achieve the EU’s 27% renewable energy target by 2030. RED II includes specific measures to promote sustainable bioenergy and renewables in the transport sector. The aim is to accelerate the deployment of low-emission and renewable energy such as biofuels and electricity for transport.
