BIC is managed by the Board of Directors whose members are legal entities and are elected by the General Assembly. The Board of Directors represent a balanced reflection of the composition of the industry members. The Board of Directors are renewed annually by half.

Structure

General Assembly

The General Assembly is convened by the Executive Director and meets at least for one ordinary meeting per year. An Industry (Full) member can be represented at the General Assembly by one delegate. The General Assembly has full power of decision to attain and implement the objectives of BIC.

Associate Members Working Group

The non-industry members contribute to the AWPs with latest innovative technologies and insights. BIC has set up a system to further enhance the participation of the AM in programming and education activities.

Communications Network

The Communications Network consists of a group of representatives responsible for communication and press who share communications materials of mutual interest. 

Members of the network can share materials to be published on BIC channels e.g. newsletter and social media and BIC will occasionally share communications materials with the designated representative. Participants includes BIC members, representatives from BBI CBE projects, BIC partner organisations, etc.

Programming Working Group (PWG)

The Programming Working Group (PWG) develops the long-term (Vision), medium-term (Multi-annual Programming document) and short-term (Annual Work Programmes) strategic research and innovation actions to achieve the goals of the public-private partnership with the European Commission. 

The topics in the AWPs are launched annually calling for proposals to resolve the challenges. Each industry member must designate one representative and a back-up. The PWG works collectively to propose priorities for topics, to be discussed with associated members then subsequently the BIC Board and the European Commission. 

A Programming Core Team (PCT) consisting of 15-18 industry members representing the membership in terms of size, key bio-based innovation focus and geography assists BIC staff with specific input on technical details of topic content and answers on topic interpretation questions.

Public Affairs Working Groups

The goal of the BIC Public Affairs Working Group (PA WG) is to promote the bio-based industries and position our industry as a leader in providing sustainable, bio-based solutions. Our public affairs work is about our industry as key driver of achieving core EU (policy) objectives and to achieve a favourable policy, regulatory and financing framework for the bio-based industries. 

The BIC PA WG leads on BIC advocacy work, engagement with political stakeholders, drafting position papers and building alliances to reach this objective. The BIC PA objectives are aligned with the members’ priorities as formulated in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and in the context of European political initiatives, in particular, the European Green Deal.
