UPM

UPM - the Biofore Company - leads the integration of bio- and forest industries into a new, sustainable and innovation-driven future. UPM, with headquarters in Finland, has 19.300 employees and 85.000 shareholders and. UOPM has production sites in 13 countries (of which 8 in Europe) and a sales network on the 6 continents.

UPM consists of six business areas: UPM Biorefining, UPM Energy, UPM Raflatac, UPM Specialty Papers, UPM Paper ENA (Europe & North America) and UPM Plywood. UPM products are made of responsibly sourced, renewable raw materials. They offer alternatives to replace non-renewable fossil-based materials.

UPM develops new innovative and sustainable businesses. Biofuels, biocomposites and biochemicals are based on UPM's extensive know-how and strong position in the forest biomass sourcing and processing value chain.

UPM’s circular economy approach crystallises into three words: ‘More with Biofore’. UPM reuses or recycles virtually all production waste, recycles materials and products several times, and creates added value through smart solutions. UPM’s goal is to minimise waste and maximise reuse.

New, innovative technologies – such as industrial biotechnology, 3D printing and energy technologies – give new ways to create innovative products and solutions. UPM does all this to bring economic, social and environmental value to their stakeholders and the society.

UPM is partner in BBI JU projects ‘EFFORTE’ (Efficient forestry by precision planning and management for sustainable environment and cost-competitive bio-based industry), ‘PROVIDES’ (PROcesses for Value added fibres by Innovative Deep Eutectic Solvents) and ‘Valchem’ (Value added chemical building blocks and lignin from wood).
