Borregaard has one of the world's most advanced and sustainable biorefineries based on woody biomass and is today market leader for the manufacture, development and supply of lignin based performance chemicals and applications and the only producer of vanillin from biomass.

By using natural, sustainable raw materials, Borregaard produces advanced and environmentally friendly biochemicals, biomaterials and bioethanol that can replace oil-based products. Borregaard also holds strong positions within additives, fine chemicals and energy. The product range includes specialty fibers, lignin based performance chemicals to be used as dispersants and binders , 2 G bioethanol as well as flavours such as vanillin. Future ambitions include the usage of alternative lignocellulosic biomass including forest and agricultural residues as well as broadening the product and application pipeline.

Borregaard has 1080 employees in plants and sales offices in 16 countries throughout Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa. Research and innovation activities are conducted worldwide with main R&D center located in Norway. This also includes multiple pilot facilities for the scale-up of new technologies for the production of biofuels, biochemicals from cellulosic sugars, bio-based performance chemicals such as lignin and microfibrillated cellulose as well as fine chemicals and pharmaceutical products.
