Äänekoski bioproduct mill

Project Aim

To build and then start operating a mill entity utilising northern wood as the main raw material. The bioproduct mill is a platform enabling production of several bioproducts.

About

A conventional mill producing wood-based pulp as the main product generates several other co-products like crude tall oil, turpentine, power and steam. The bioproduct mill was designed and executed as an entity which produces several other co-products in addition. Such new co-products include product gas, sulphuric acid, bio-gas and bio-fuel pellets. Future co-products could include textile fibres and new packaging materials. Also, the bioproduct mill sells CO2 to a neighbouring company that converts it to a pigment.
