Ørsted is one of the leading energy groups in Northern Europe headquartered in Denmark with a strong profile in renewables. Ørsted business is based on procuring, producing, distributing and trading in energy and related products in Northern Europe.
Ørsted pursues new applications of the above technologies including new bio-based products. Ørsted New Bio Solutions encompass the three bio-based technologies, Inbicon, REnescience and Pyroneer.
Inbicon is a technology for the production of second-generation bioethanol, where residual products from agriculture are converted to fuel that can supplement petrol and diesel. The technology is of great interest because of the need to reduce CO2 emission in particular in the transport sector.
REnescience is a technology for pre-treatment of unsorted municipal waste, which then can be used as raw material for biogas production, while plastic, glass and metals can be recycled. The technology utilises enzymes in the process in which waste is turned into biogas.
Pyrenees gasification technology is based on circulation fluidised bed technology operated at a relative low temperature. Within these three technologies the company operates the following plants:
- One of the largest demonstration plants in the world for the production of bioethanol from straw, the Inbicon demonstration plant in Kalundborg Denmark. The plant also produces C5 molasses and lignin pellets.
- A demonstration facility for biochemical separation of unsorted municipal solid waste (REnescience technology)
- A low temperature gasification demonstration facility (Pyroneer).
