Novamont is a global market leader in biodegradable and compostable bioplastics.

Novamont promotes the development of a bioeconomy model based on the efficient use of renewable resources and on the regeneration of local areas. The cornerstone of the bioeconomy model, understood as territorial regeneration, is the biorefinery integrated in the local area.

The vision guiding Novamont project is “Living Chemistry for the Quality of Life”, where biochemicals and biomaterials are developed in third generation biorefineries through a strong interaction between agriculture and chemistry. The aim is to produce innovative solutions for final applications capable of delivering strong environmental, social and economical benefits for the system in which they operate (i.e. local areas, regions) by enabling an efficient and sustainable use of the planet limited natural resources.

Novamont biodegradable and compostable bioplastics Mater-Bi® is a starch based family of bioplastics and is suitable for injection moulding, sheet and film applications. Typical applications for Mater-Bi® are: carrier bags, film for agricultural mulching, personal care products, catering products, food packaging. Mater-Bi® is manufactured in the Novamont Integrated Biorefinery in Terni (IT) which has a production capacity of 120.000 ton/year for compounding, and 60.000 ton for polyesters.
